I want to help migrants and refugees

Imagine moving to a new country where you do not speak or understand the local language. It’s easy to recognise how difficult this might make even the simplest of tasks, like doing your weekly grocery shop. But more importantly, language is a vital part of communicating and connecting with others. So lacking that understanding can quickly lead to isolation and loneliness.

The Anglicare Cross-Cultural Services team equips churches to provide English lessons. English lessons are a wonderful demonstration of Christian care, acceptance and friendship to those who are adjusting to a new culture. They are a practical way for you and your church family to love immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers in your community.

A wonderful way for you to love your community

As your church reflects the generosity of Christ the students who walk through your doors, we pray that they encounter Jesus through your genuine care and respond to him as their Lord and Saviour.

Anglicare can train, equip and support your church volunteers to offer this vibrant ministry for your community. We provide:

  • Start-up training in teaching English as a second language. This includes teaching methods; cultural awareness; adult education; using the Bible; the practicalities of setting up classes; creating your own English lesson resources; advertising; and promotion.
  • Two teacher training days each year.
  • Ongoing support from Anglicare’s excellent team of Cross-Cultural Advisors.
  • Anglicare English lesson resources.
  • A well-resourced English lesson library that is available to all teachers of English classes at Anglican churches.

The Anglicare Cross-Cultural Services team works in partnership you’re your church to assist in your community outreach to migrants and refugees.
