Course Presenters

Sian Palmieri
Sian is the Program Coordinator for Anglicare's Suicide Prevention for Seniors Program and the 2025 Australian Mental Health Advocate of the Year. A nationally recognised leader and speaker in suicide prevention, Sian is dedicated to changing the way Australia understands and supports older people experiencing distress. Drawing on both her lived experience and professional background in psychology, she brings a compassionate, evidence-informed approach to every aspect of her work.
Sian's frontline experience spans aftercare and Safe Haven models, where she has supported individuals and families following a suicide attempt and helped shape community-based responses rooted in hope and human connection. Her training delivery is grounded in trauma-informed, person-centred principles, empowering aged care, health, and community workers to recognise warning signs, start meaningful conversations, and respond with empathy and confidence.
Through her leadership at Anglicare, Sian continues to amplify the voices of older people—ensuring suicide prevention is inclusive, respectful, and accessible for all.
Nancy Gewargis
Nancy is the Program Manager for Anglicare's Suicide Prevention for Seniors Program. Nancy's role involved setting up the training and leading a team to grow the program across Australia. Since launching in late 2021, the program has grown with just over 12,000 people trained across the country and hundreds attending training and webinar sessions on a monthly basis. Nancy has extensive experience in marketing, strategic planning and program management with a passion for supporting older adults and a particular interest in mental health.
Anglicare acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the original and ongoing custodians of the lands and waters on which we live and work.

Inspired by the gospel of reconciliation in Jesus Christ, Anglicare's vision for reconciliation is a nation in which Australia's First Peoples are restored in dignity, respect, empowerment and opportunity.
