Family dispute resolution is a process that enables families to come to an agreement on issues of parenting and property. This process is also called ‘mediation’ and it takes place in a non-adversarial environment, facilitated by qualified and impartial practitioners who are known as ‘mediators’.
Your mediator will explain everything in a clear, simple way, so that you both fully understand what needs to be done to find a way forward. They can give you helpful and practical and assist you to make calm decisions and resolve big conflicts in a way that everyone agrees on.
All this is done in a safe space where you can feel free to share your opinions. Everything discussed is completely confidential and legally assisted meditation can also be made available.
This service is for separated parents who are not talking, finding it hard to communicate without fighting, or are struggling to manage their co-parenting responsibilities.
It is currently only available in Nowra, Ulladulla, Moruya and Bega.
You may be seen together or separately, and it is also available even if only one parent wishes to attend. The service also includes counselling and group work for your children, giving them a safe and supportive space to talk through their feelings about your family’s separation.
If you need this service but live outside of these areas where it is currently available, please call the Family Relationships Advice Line on 1800 050 321.
